Culture and Curriculum: Delivering the National DPP Lifestyle Change Program with Cultural Humility and Appropriate Adaptation
Competency: Cultural Humility
Training Length: 60 minutes
The 98 million people living in the United States who are estimated to have prediabetes come from a variety of cultural, educational, and religious backgrounds. Lifestyle Coaches, whether delivering the program with an audience of participants from a similar cultural background or a diverse group, need to be mindful of the influence of culture on lifestyle change program participants. Whether it be preferred foods, physical activity norms, or support systems, facilitating the program with cultural humility requires Lifestyle Coaches to have inclusive conversations and to occasionally adapt conversations or resources to meet the needs of individuals in their groups. In this webinar, through conversations with experienced Lifestyle Coaches, we will explore different aspects of culture that influence participants in the lifestyle change program.
The DTTAC Master Trainer and panelists will discuss the importance of appropriately making program adaptations that demonstrate inclusivity and cultural humility, while still maintaining program fidelity.
