The Lifestyle Change Program as an Antidote for Loneliness

While we think of the positive, supportive connections that form between participants in the National DPP lifestyle change program as primarily focused around helping one another make healthy lifestyle changes, it is evident to any coach or participant that these connections are so much more than just a means to pursue diabetes prevention goals.  The connections and support created in a lifestyle change program group may be one antidote to the public health crisis of loneliness and social isolation.  In this podcast, a mental health professional will talk about the epidemic of loneliness and social isolation in the United States. The Master Trainer facilitator will also discuss best practices for creating a positive and supportive group environment that can reduce loneliness and social isolation for participants as well as the importance of resources and referral.
